FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Can I apply for a Napier Award directly to the Napier Initiative at Pilgrim Place?
A: No.  All applicants must submit their Napier application materials to the designated contact person at their respective colleges by October 17, 2012.  Each college will then choose up to three applicants to be its nominees for the Awards.

Q: How can I know if my particular vocational passion and project proposal “fit” with the intentions of Pilgrim Place's Napier Awards?
A: In this third year of the Napier Awards, we are deliberately refraining from giving detailed guidelines, hoping thereby to avoid stifling applicants’ vocational passion and project creativity.  We believe that just as successful applicants will come from a wide variety of backgrounds, so also they will be headed toward a wide variety of vocational pursuits.  If your particular life journey has moved you to the broad arena of leadership in the quest for a just, peaceful and sustainable world, we encourage you to become an applicant for the Napier Awards.

Q: If I receive a Napier Award, can I accept another award or scholarship at the same time?
A: Yes, that will not be a problem—as long as the Napier project is carried out in the first year after graduation, in the manner explained in the Application Information page.

Q: What if I am nominated by my college for a Napier Award but don’t want a mentor?
A: We think a mentoring relationship can be valuable both for the students and for the mentors (“super cool” is how one student responded when hearing about this).  We expect all Award nominees to participate in the several occasions prior to Napier Awards Day when nominees and potential mentors can get acquainted (see Important Dates in Application Information page). But after that time, nominees can choose not to pursue the relationship.  For those who decide to continue the relationship, it will be up to students and mentors to mutually agree upon such things as the frequency, place, means, and content of their future conversations.
