HOW TO APPLY

Applicants will take each of the following steps and submit materials to the designated person at their college.

1. Complete the brief application form also available at your college.  Attach a résumé and official transcript.

2. Provide at least two letters of recommendation (Recommendation Form): one from a faculty member and one from another person who has worked with you in the setting where your proposal project will be carried out.  Each letter should comment on your leadership skills, on why the writer believes you are worthy of receiving a Napier Award, and on how you have modeled the better future which you seek.  The second writer should also indicate that you and your project would be welcomed. Provide a Recommendation Form for the people who will write on your behalf.

3. Write a personal essay covering each of the following matters.  The essay may be up to three
typed pages (single spaced, 12-point type).

In your essay explain:

  A. Your grasp of the context and critical issues surrounding that aspect of the quest for a just, peaceful and sustainable world to which your proposed project is related.
  B. Experiences you have had which have informed you about this quest and encouraged your commitment to it.
  C. The process by which you have previously motivated people to work in this quest and have supported their efforts.
  D. How would you measure the results of the project? f) How could the task undertaken in the project be sustained after you leave? g) Give any other information which would help the selection panel understand your proposed project.
  E. Your hope for how the project would contribute to your future career path and leadership role.

4. Use an additional page with budget projections to indicate how the $10,000 stipend of the Napier Award would be used to support your proposed project. Build your budget knowing that the stipend can be used for travel, living expenses, materials, a language refresher course, or whatever will promote the successful completion of your project.

5. Immediately following Winter Break, by January 21, 2013, you may send Pilgrim Place additional information about your project that covers developments occurring since its submission (up to 2 pages).

Note that those nominated by their colleges are expected to participate in the November 18, December 2, January 27, and February 15 events referred to in the Application Information page.
